Roxas Hall Welcomes the Freshmen

Incoming First years couldn’t contain their excitement as they attended the annual Freshmen Orientation Program held last August 2, 2019 at the West Visayas State University College of Medicine Auditorium. The morning program began with a Holy Mass and the Opening Remarks was given by the dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Jose Nemesio Granada followed by the orientation regarding the University Rules and Regulations by Dr. Nancy Surmieda as well as the College Rules and Regulation by Dr. Victor Amantillo.

Dr. Johann Paulo Guzman, a pediatric laparoscopic surgeun, was the inspirational speeker of the said program. He spoke words of encouragement and motivations to the freshmen to do well in school while also reminding them to have fun and enjoy their journey towards their dreams of becoming a physician.

“A diploma from West Visayas State University College of Medicine is not a guarantee to fameor even success, but the people you meet and the values that you developed in your time here will mold you to be the physician that is proudly tatak taga-West M.D.”. Dr. Guzman said.

Faculty and Staff of the College of Medicine was then introduce to the freshmen by Dr. Celina Gellada and Dr. Gregorio Anastacio Rufon, respectively.

The program also included the presentation of the awardees for the upperclassmen and alumni to serve as a motivation to the freshmen. It was then followed by the Recognition of MSC officers A.Y. 2018-2019 and Induction of the new set of MSC officers for the A.Y. 2019-2020. response from the first years was given by Joao Artemio Lorenzo P. Pama and Nikka V. Abellana.

Dr. Celina Gellada, Associate Dean for the Academic affairs, gave the closing remarks which ended the morning program.

For the 2nd part of the program, First years were assigned to their respective SGDs for that afternoon. They had their lunch together as a group which allowed them to get to know their future classmates then the Org Fair followed wherein they were toured around the Roxas Hall to the different booths set up by the different organizations of the College.

The afternoon program was opened by the MSC chairperson, Tonee Ivan Golez followed by the APMC talk given by Patrique Sta.Maria. Ms. Reden Montaǹo, College Librarian, introduced the rules and regulations of using the library. Part of the afternoon program also includes giving insights on Surviving the first year, how to do transes, a short orientation for the Litmus, Hinampang, APMC Cheerdance as well as the Mr. And Ms. West in which the latter two is traditionally represented by the freshmen.

Closing remarks was given by Earl John Caǹonero. And the 1st ever batch photo taking of the freshmen concludes the program.
