The first for the school year 2019 – 2020, the Order of Asclepius spearheaded yet another Blood for Glory (B4G) blood donation drive last September 11, 2019 at Roxas Hall from 9 am to 2 pm.

This event united almost 200 healthcare volunteers, different organizations, medical students, student nurses, and aspiring blood donors.

From 61 aspiring donors, a total of 47 blood bags successfully collected. This whole day event was conducted as part of the medical students’ movement to help in preventing blood shortage especially now during dengue season.

“As medical students, we have duties to educate and promote blood donation because it does not only help those in need, but also provide benefits for the donors.”, Mary Joyce Limoico, the event head, quipped.

This blood donation drive is held every three months annually. The organization was planning on pursuing this activity again this coming December 2019 and March 2020.

After donating blood, donors were given free food sponsored by WVSUMC blood bank department, MSC and APMC.

“This is really a refreshing feeling because it is not all the time you will be given the chance to be a part of this type of event. This might only be a simple act to some, but it can really help a lot of other people.”, Jorian Floyd Quijano of Batch ASP said in an interview.

It was a show of collaboration between the West Visayas State University Medical Center (WVSUMC) blood bank department, Philippine Red Cross Iloilo Chapter, Tactical Operations Group 6 of the Philippine Air Force,  Association of Philippine Medical Colleges, Medicine Student Council, Asian Medical Students’ Association, Student Nurses Association of the Philippines WVSU chapter, and Nursing Student Council of WVSU.
