Batch Claritas, Consano, et Concordia (Class 2020) celebrated the 8th World Kidney Day on March 14, 2019 at Roxas Hall, West Visayas State University.

With the supervision of Dr. Lynette Alcala, the Block Chair for Genitourinary System, Batch 2020 held a video competition exploring on this year’s theme “Kidney Health for Everyone Everywhere”.

Outputs presented by the different groups tackled the problems and possible solutions for promoting kidney health as potrayed in diverse ways such as: song and dance, documentary, community immersion, and artistic interpretation among others.

Invited guests including some members of the Philippine Society of Nephrology – Western Visayas Panay Chapter and the Pediatric Nephrology Society of the Philippines selected the top 3 winners from 12 competing entries.

The World Kidney Day Celebration happens to fall during the Genitourinary Block of Level III medical students and the faculty decided to make it as a part of the curriculum as an avenue for kidney wellness promotion. The activity was included as a correlate component for Block 19.

“I was impressed with the presentations [and] I hope you will also adopt this advocacy, “Kidney Health for Everyone Everywhere” that includes yourself, your family, community, and of course the whole country”, said Dr. James Woo, the first Pediatric Nephrologist in the region, in his message.

The first place entry was proposed to be shown during the Pediatric Nephrology Society Convention this November.
